A Very Merry Week

This week, students were hard at work wrapping up their essays, finishing up our ratio unit, creating their volcanoes, and enjoying some holiday crafts and festivities.

In science, we have been studying the rock cycle. We started making larger connections by wondering what makes the rock cycle happen. Students learned that rocks continue in the rock cycle from weathering, erosion, deposition, heat, pressure, and the list goes on. We focused on heat and pressure by wondering how a volcanic eruption can affect the rock cycle. Students had the opportunity to learn about the tectonic plates, the parts of volcanoes, and how volcanoes work. Once they had all of the background knowledge, they got to the fun part: building their models that will eventually erupt (using baking soda and vinegar). This hands-on opportunity got the kids to really hone in on their knowledge of volcanoes and the rock cycle!
Day 1- Paper Mache: How we started to create our volcanoes
Day 2- Painting our volcanoes to make them accurate
Day 3- Finished product (just before adding labels), ready to be erupted!

Additionally, we had a week full of fun activities! Students got to make their own snowflakes, build a paper chain of goals, and even practice singing carols for our trip to the Manor.

I want to give our students a HUGE shout-out for being incredibly respectful and responsible on our field trip to the Manor. Your efforts put smiles on many faces, and that is something that you all should be proud of!

Thank you to all families to brought in food for our classroom's holiday party! It was such a treat to be able to celebrate the upcoming holiday while also celebrating all of the hard work your child has put in this year.
