4/20: Elements of Poetry Tutorial

For the next few weeks we will be studying poetry! We will be focusing on the elements of poetry to begin with. This video shows you how to access and use the Elements of Poetry assignment. You will learn how to save your work, how to go from lesson to lesson, and how to use the links that are throughout this resource. Please watch before beginning your assignments!

5/4: Identifying Theme Using Photos

Watch this video before completing page 8 of the Elements of Poetry assignment. It will show you how to identify a theme using photographs. In my video I teach you about Lewis Hine, a famous photographer who captured the life of children working in mills back when child labor was allowed. We explore a series of his photographs and come to a conclusion of their theme, or the message that Lewis Hine was trying to teach the people who looked at his photos. On page 8 of the Elements of Poetry assignment, you'll watch a video that includes many clips of slavery in America. These clips will help you to identify the theme of "Caged Bird" by Maya Angelou.

5/11: Characteristics of Narrative Poetry Lesson

Watch this lesson to learn about the characteristics of narrative poetry. You will be writing your own narrative poems later this week, so be sure to watch and listen closely! When you're done, choose to read either "The Pig" by Roald Dahl or "One For All and All For One" by Pat A. Fleming. These are both examples of narrative poems! Then, fill out the Characteristics of Narrative Poetry Google Form to show that you understand how to identify these characteristics in the poem that you read.
